This amp is pretty amazing actually. it has a sense of Dire-straits about it, although I know they didn’t use it..I know why they called it “Angel” because its the least aggressive amp I’ve ever played from these guys!. playing softly will reward you here.

The Roadstar is very Bold, (despite the Bold and spongy setting on the amp) – but it really does let you dig in so to speak. – good for fast playing and chugga chugga sort of things. – But very warm and articulate sound, Loved the cleans on this too, classic boogie!

The normal rules apply here for Rectified heads. – but I found this voicing to be a little Behind the note, now, this is a hard thing to explain, so bear with me. – Im trusting you all get the spongy feel from an amp, well take that feel, and then feel like your playing it behind glass, but with the speaker behind you… err OK I’ll stop that and let you get on with it. – Wonderful amplifier. Great sound and Punch.. I think this will be better suited for Live play than the studio….

TO be frank, this was the Highlight of this pack for me, – I really did adore the sweet driver offerings it gave, it was really smooth both in chord play and lead play. and was quite versatile, and great dynamics to boot. – the Higher gain did not seem overly compressed, and had a good range to it throughout the spectrum. great player, great sound, give it a try!

I love the look of these amps, especially when they are bran new like this one was. – Takes a while for these amps to warm up correctly to get its optimal sound, (around 1 hour) – But the wait paid off, I think this amp is falls under the backstage sort of tone, not really frontrunning like say a Marz or a mesa for high gain.

What you Get…
The M4 has 4 channels, all solid-state tech, and a gazillion other switches and knobs. – although this brand of amps are better known for there true all valve amps. this is not to be ignored. – it does sounds good, but lacks the bottom end clarity of a tube driven amp. – it will sit really well in a mix because of this reason though, and is a lot easier to dial in a setting. – Keep your eyes shut, and you will never know!!

Lets start with the clean tone. – One of the nicest (classic old style boogie) warm tone. – the crunch and tweed settings I dint find very useful and hard to mange/get something really usable due to a high shrill like top end. – the Lead settings though, wow, this is why I see so many like this amp, its fantastic, very strong & bold, and is one of those “riff” players amps. Fantastic.

Anyone who knows these amps all say they are still famous for there “fat clean” no different from the norm on this amp either. I find this amp soothing in the upper mids, its not a harsh like distortion. add extra bass for a soothing warmer tone.
